The overall goal of the X Space is to stimulate dialogue and action towards ensuring that Nigerian women have equal opportunities to participate in and contribute to the nation's political development through improving knowledge of the Maputo Protocol and its relevance to women's political inclusion in Nigeria.
The X-spaces event is designed to:
Assess the current status of women's inclusion in Nigerian politics, including their representation in elected offices.
Build the capacity of state and non-state actors, including female politicians, professional women’s groups, traditional and faith leaders, and the general public on the domestication of the Protocol.
Highlight the key provisions of the Maputo Protocol related to women's political participation and gender equality and propose strategies and policy recommendations for the effective implementation of the Maputo Protocol to enhance women's inclusion in Nigerian politics.
Expected Outcomes
Increased awareness of the Maputo Protocol's relevance to women's political inclusion in Nigeria.
A clear understanding of the existing challenges and barriers that women face in Nigerian politics.
Improved capacity of state and non-state actors to demand the domestication and implementation of the Protocol for the advancement of the rights of Nigerian women and girls.
Policy recommendations and strategies for Nigerian authorities and civil society organisations to implement the Maputo Protocol effectively.
A roadmap for promoting gender equality and women's participation in politics, in line with the Maputo Protocol.
