BAOBAB Strengthens Capacity of Journalists on Gender-Responsive Reporting of Sexual & Gender-Based Violence.
For Immediate Release
Abuja, 29th November 2022
As part of the activities marking the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, with the theme of “Let’s UNITE to End the War on Women’s Bodies”, BAOBAB for Women’s Human Rights (BAOBAB) is deepening engagement with the media by organising a one-day training workshop on Leadership and Gender-Responsive Reporting of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence in Nigeria for about thirty-five (35) journalists representing traditional and new media organisations.
The workshop which is organised in collaboration with the Ondo State Agency Against Gender-Based Violence (OSAA-GBV), with funding support by the African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF) is in recognition of the role of the media as a powerful agent of social change in Nigeria and critical for bringing women’s rights issues to the front-burner, galvanising actions and support for justice.
The one-day training workshop scheduled to hold at Royal Birds Hotels & Towers Alagbaka on Tuesday, 29th November 2022, is designed to: (i) strengthen understanding of transformative leadership; (ii) increase the number of media organisations reporting sexual violence from a gender-aware perspective; and (iii) build practical analytical knowledge of advocacy as a tool for ending SGBV in Nigeria.
It is expected that beneficiaries would leave the workshop fired up and ready to contribute to the advocacy to make Nigeria a gender-based violence -free society.
